Hygiene Technician

Our Client is a global mining company with several mines located in the Pilbara region of WA.

Currently seeking an experienced Hygiene Technician to work a 5 day on/2 day off – 4 day on/3 day off FIFO roster

The Health and Safety team provide advice and support in occupational health and safety to the operation. The Health Officer is an integral part of the Health and Safety Department with this role responsible for completing DMP CONTAM legislative measuring and monitoring and other tasks to ensure the site remains compliant with the Client’s Standards and Element 13 Measuring and monitoring requirements.

Some specific functions of the Health Officer role are:

  • Ensuring legislative requirements are being met by the Division. 
  • To recognise, evaluate and control occupational health and hygiene hazards in line with the site occupational hygiene program, ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and Rio Tinto health standards
  • To evaluate situations in the workplace and assess the risks to health arising from different factors (i.e. particulates, ventilation, noise, hazardous substances, radiation, thermal stress or Legionella)
  • To provide necessary respiratory and hearing protection fit testing (500+ personnel every 2 years)
  • To conduct audiometric testing and phase shift analysis that will identify personnel affected by hearing loss (500+ personnel every 2 years)
  • Implementing site health and hygiene programmes to improve the health and mental wellbeing of employees at work and home.
  • Active involvement in the site Peer Support program
  • Assisting in the audit process, through coaching leaders and team members on the health and safety standards and elements of HSEQ as well as assisting in gap analysis and audit preparation;
  • Working with safety and health representatives and team members to identify health hazards, and recommending appropriate solutions to operational teams to eliminate risks in the field.

Specific academic or professional qualifications and/ or licenses/ training necessary for this position;

ESSENTIAL:

  • Surface Ventilation Technician
  • WorkCover Audiometric Officer
  • Experience in Respirator and Hearing Protection Fit Testing
  • Driver’s License

DESIRABLE:

  • AHPRA registered health professional
  • Surface Ventilation Officer
  • Tertiary qualification in a Health Sciences related field.
  • Basic Principles in Occupational Hygiene

As a potential member of the Underground Mine Operations team, you will be experienced in at least one of the below roles, but be willing to perform duties outside of the normal activities.

These ongoing contract roles will be offered FIFO Perth on a 2/1 roster.


Experienced underground personnel required

Rehab Jumbo Operators
Charge Up / Blast Crew – WA Shotfirer's Licence Essential
Grader Operators – HR Licence Essential
Service Crew / Agi Operators
Underground Shift Supervisors

Essential requirements

To be initially considered for the above roles, applicants are required to provide the following;

An up to date Résumé, with at least two contactable referees, detailing experience underground with the above. (2+ Years' Underground Experience ESSENTIAL)
National Police Clearance. (Valid within the last 3 months ESSENTIAL)
A current Western Australian Drivers Licence. (ESSENTIAL)
A current Work Safely at Heights Certificate. (ESSENTIAL)
Current tickets of competency for underground machinery and equipment (Desirable)

We are currently seeking experienced  Service Crew Operators for one our blue chip clients to commence Immediately! These positions are FIFO and will commute on a 2X1 Roster

To be considered for this role you will need to have and meet the following criteria:

• Working at heights
• Experience IT Operator
• Dogging / Rigging  or LHD experience favourable
• Previous experience working within an underground Environment
• Clear Police Clearance
• Ability to pass a stringent medical and drug and alcohol screen

These positions will be ongoing fro the right candidate. Please note, smoking is not permitted underground.

  • Mine site experience, preferably in Iron Ore
